MULTI-SECTOR CARBON MARKET DIALOGUE

PARIS TO VANCOUVER: LINKING A "BOTTOM-UP" WORLD

12.00-5:00PM PACIFIC on TUESDAY, MARCH 1
MALASPINA ROOM, FAIRMONT WATERFRONT, VANCOUVER (MAP)

On behalf of IETA and international partners, we are delighted to present the content of this interactive dialogue that took place on the margins of GLOBE 2016 in Vancouver. IETA’s “Multi-Sector Carbon Market Dialogue: Linking Our Bottom-Up World – From Paris to Vancouver” takes place on Tuesday, March 1 from 12.00pm to 5.00pm Pacific at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Downtown Vancouver.

OVERVIEW

What is the true state of play and next steps regarding the new global climate agreement (The Paris Agreement), specifically around the realization of Article 6, covering global market and trading provisions? How might these top-down climate developments interact with, and hopefully enable, the explosion of “bottom-up” carbon markets cropping-up across countries, provinces and states worldwide? What are the latest carbon pricing developments, experiences, challenges and outlooks exploding from at the “bottom-up” – national and sub-national – levels? How is the business community preparing to comply and thrive across these markets? Join this timely multi-sector dialogue to garner the latest government, business, and expert insights about the winding path through Paris, with a deeper dive into tangible cooperative and linkage opportunities – and policy and market design “learnings” and outlooks – across the Americas.

OBJECTIVES & FORMAT:

Participants will have this unique opportunity to “download” and discuss the latest insights regarding (swiftly-evolving) carbon policy landscapes – from Paris to Vancouver and beyond. Significant time will be allocated to sharing multi-regional and sectoral insights around building robust carbon pricing programs and enabling linkages across disparate systems. Format will be brief presentations and interactive dialogue amongst a range of leading business, government, NGO, multi-lateral, and experts. The group will delve into future “top-down” meets “bottom-up” cooperative carbon policy/market linkage scenarios. Dialogue format also allows for sector and region-specific insights and “case studies” to be shared and candidly discussed – with a view to capturing what to follow, tailor or avoid while building, harmonizing and expanding the carbon markets (and “clubs”) of tomorrow.
